Hello, I’m Tom Bailey, an independent celebrant working across Brighton, Sussex and the South East.

Whether it’s a wedding, a renewal of vows, a baby naming ceremony, or something more unusual, I will work with you to create a unique, personal and meaningful ceremony to suitably mark the occasion.

Perhaps you have a really clear idea of what this looks like, or you might need a little more guidance. Either way, we can work together to design a ceremony that truly expresses your intentions.

On the day I will lead you and your guests through what we’ve created together, giving you the space to enjoy being at the centre of your special occasion.

ABOUT ME

Designing, planning and thinking about about audience and participant journeys through shared experiences has been central to my working life for nearly 20 years now.

From intimate site-specific theatre and community arts events, to large scale spectaculars and music festivals. The thing I’ve always found exciting is being involved in delivering shared experiences; people gathering together to witness or participate in something out of the ordinary.

What I’ve come to realise more recently, perhaps with the advent of getting married myself and the arrival of my two children, is that these occasions do not need to be on a massive scale or be experienced by thousands of people to feel worthwhile.

In fact, the more personal occasions and rites of passage are profoundly important. It is these events that become the chapter breaks, and locate us, in our own life’s story. They elevate us out of our day-to-day and provide us with a space to acknowledge the things we find important in life. They are also often an opportunity to acknowledge the network of friends and family with whom we are sharing this existence, and in doing so, of our interconnectedness as human beings.

I believe that these occasions are vitally important to us all, that they can be serious without excess solemnity, and that we can find ritual and authenticity for them without becoming excessively new age or alternative.

THE PROCESS

I would suggest that the next step of the process is to get in contact so we can arrange a (completely no-obligation) chat. This can be in person, or online, depending on where you are.

It’s vital that you find a celebrant who feels like the right fit for you, and this chat will give us an opportunity to talk through;

  • the shape and elements of your ceremony, any gaps in the planning, and your ideas and hopes for the occasion.
  • the process of us working together to produce the perfect ceremony
  • a clear timeline of what will be done, when
  • Information on fees

If, at this point, things feel right, we can confirm the booking. The date is then locked, and we can get on with the work in earnest!

“Tom is patient, kind, fun and emotionally intelligent as well as organised, meticulous and diligent.

All the things I want when I’m looking for someone to take care of an important occasion.”

-Louise Ash, Meaningful Events

HUGE thanks to Tom for putting so much work into capturing the essence of our relationship and creating something that felt warm, grounded and personal.

Our ceremony ended up being one of the most enjoyable and memorable parts of the day, with many of our guests commenting on how unusual it was for them to enjoy that part of a wedding so much!

-Rosie MH

Tom was great at supporting us with the practical elements of the ceremony and making sure the whole event flowed smoothly.

Thank you Tom, for helping us to tie the knot in a way that was reflective of us and being part of what made our day so brilliant!

– Joe S
